Located in the Central High Atlas Mountains, the M'Goun Massif is a bit harder to get to, but for the true adventurer, this mountain range showcases the wilder side of the High Atlas Mountains. During the winter months, Mount M'Goun receives regular snowfall and is rarely accessed by travelers, making this a true off the grid expedition. We explore this wild mountain range of North Africa and the surrounding area using crampons, ice axes, and snow shoes. Experience with winter trekking conditions is required. Itinerary can be completed as a "short break" style trip, or as a full week exploring and trekking the M'Goun and Central Atlas Mountains region.
Highlights:
Trek across the M'Goun Massif and head to the summits of M'Goun West 1 (4000m), M'Goun West 2 (4012m), and the real summit, Amsoud, 4,068 meters (13,346 feet).
Beautiful winter landscapes and ice trekking and climbs to snowy peaks (weather permitting).
Accommodation in local guesthouses/refuges, no camping required.
Additional Information:
Acclimatization days in Ait Bouguemez Valley can be added for travelers not accustomed to high elevation trekking.
As with all Expedition Morocco itineraries, the trip is fully customizable, and can depart any day to suit your schedule.
The ideal time of year for this itinerary is between the months of November/December to March/April, based on mountain weather conditions.
